Shilpa Architects Planners Designers is an international, award-winning firm of architects and designers headquartered in Chennai. The firm was founded in 1979 by Sheila Sri Prakash who is internationally acknowledged as the first woman in India to establish her own practice. A few years ago, Shilpa acquired a firm called SGBL Studio, which has offices in Chicago, New York and Seoul and has executed projects globally including the US, Belgium, Norway, China, Japan, Kuwait etc. Shilpa also executes high-end turnkey design-build solutions through a wholly-owned subsidiary called Stone Lotus. The firm is best known for its work in environmentally and socioeconomically sustainable design. Designers from Shilpa have represented India at several international forums as speakers and have been a part of the Indian delegation to the US Green Building Council, and the World Bank. The firm's portfolio spans the entire range of the real estate industry and ranges from housing, hospitality, commercial offices, and sports to transport infrastructure. Shilpa has always had a focus on green and sustainable architecture and has been a steering member of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). With its own LEED Certified professional in house Shilpa is in the advantageous position of designing and simultaneously facilitating the LEED process for certification.
