Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC)

London, England, United Kingdom • 180 Employees
Government Administration

MOPAC (Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime) is the strategic oversight body that sets the direction and budget for the Metropolitan Police Service on behalf of the Mayor. It ensures the Metropolitan Police Service is run efficiently and effectively and holds it, and other criminal justice services, to account on behalf of Londoners. As well as setting the direction and budget for the MPS, MOPAC sets targets, scrutinises police performance and commissions selected services on behalf of the Mayor – including crime prevention schemes in boroughs via the London Crime Prevention Fund and victim support services across London. The Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 established a Police and Crime Commissioner for each police force area across England and Wales. In London, the equivalent of the Police and Crime Commissioner is the elected Mayor of London. The Mayor is able to appoint a Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime to undertake the vast majority of duties assigned to him, and he has done so. Stephen Greenhalgh has been the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime since 1st June 2012. The Mayor remains responsible for issuing his Police and Crime Plan, and for the appointment and removal of senior Met Officers.
