University at Buffalo Neurosurgery, Inc. (UBNS) is an academic neurosurgical group committed to excellence in education, patient care, and research. The threefold mission of UBNS is to improve the human condition through compassionate clinical care, prepare the next generation of clinicians in academics and community neurosurgery and explore evolving knowledge through impactful research.UBNS follows a team approach to diagnosing and treating complex disorders of the brain and spine. Accordingly, patients treated at our institution derive the unique benefit of having multiple highly-regarded physicians and other clinical experts involved in their care. Each of our physicians is grouped into one of five specialized teams according to his or her area of expertise: neuroendovascular, movement disorders, pediatric neurosurgery, spine and skull base disorders, and/or minimally invasive endoscopy. Each team thus consists of at least one and up to three attending neurosurgeons; a cadre of nurses and nurse practitioners who are experts in the evaluation and management of brain and spine disease. All of our surgeons are nationally recognized leaders in their respective specialties. That said, patients who prefer to have a specific physician in charge of their care should know that every effort will be made to fulfill their request, though it will ultimately depend on physician availability. In these cases, patients still receive the benefit of a team approach; their chosen attending neurosurgeon simply serves as the captain of their team of caregivers.
