Based in Waterloo, Ontario and Scottsdale, Arizona, Ambature, Inc. is the world leader in a-axis high-temperature superconducting technology. We design superconducting materials and quantum devices to power an innovative, sustainable future. Nearly half of Ambature's intellectual property portfolio is dedicated to computing and sensing, while the other half is dedicated to clean energy—the generation, transmission and storage of electricity. Our unique materials and scalable device architectures enable two important shifts in the advanced chips industry: mass production and higher operating temperatures of superconducting devices. If the transistor is the most fundamental semiconductor device, then the Josephson junction (JJ) is the most fundamental superconductor device. JJs are building blocks for sensors, quantum computers, and high-performance or energy-efficient classical computers. Our JJs can be manufactured at scale in any major foundry in the world using standard silicon fabrication equipment.Semiconductors conduct electricity with some resistance. Resistance generates heat in wires, batteries, antennas, smartphones, computers, etc. Heat is the major barrier to advancements in semiconductor power, speed, density, efficiency, and reliability. Our materials address the heat problem because superconductors conduct electricity without resistance. Superconductors typically operate at very cold temperatures, but Ambature's roots are in research towards room temperature superconductivity. There are low-temperature superconductors (LTS) and high-temperature superconductors (HTS). HTS devices reduce cooling power consumption and coolant costs by an order of magnitude. Ambature's a-axis HTS JJs will be the first commercially available, mass produced HTS tunnel junctions. They are viable because we have overcome historical technological barriers by mastering a-axis rather than conventional c-axis epitaxial growth.
