The Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities (AIPG) is building a world that prevents genocide and other mass atrocities. Through education and technical assistance we aim to support states to develop or strengthen national mechanisms for the prevention of genocide and other mass atrocities. We also aim to encourage states to cooperate for the prevention of genocide and other mass atrocities through regional and international efforts. The Global Government edition of the Lemkin Seminar educates officials from around the world on the causes of genocide and policy to prevent it. Once participants return to their home institutions, AIPG continues to work with them to develop national programs that build local capacity to prevent genocide. More than 90 states have participated in our programs to date. In 2012, the Auschwitz Institute launched the first regional network for genocide and mass atrocity prevention in Latin America, with 18 states in Central and South America. Similarly, AIPG and the African Union (AU) have entered into a partnership to facilitate genocide prevention seminars, develop a curriculum for national implementation, and facilitate national initiatives for genocide and mass atrocity prevention.
