Since 1975, The YWCA Sonoma County has been the county's main provider of domestic violence intervention, treatment and prevention services. The YWCA Sonoma County is a community-based organization that provides the only state-designated emergency shelter for women and children fleeing from domestic violence in Sonoma County. The YWCA Sonoma County is a locally-funded and run affiliate of the national organization which is the largest provider of domestic violence services in the U.S. As one of the first domestic violence shelters in California, for more than 30 years, the YWCA Sonoma County has been an important collaborative partner in numerous inter-agency initiatives such as the Sonoma County Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council, and most recently in the planning and implementation with the District Attorney's office of the Family Justice Center Sonoma County.
