What does (pre)colonial heritage mean in today's world? Beyond Walls explores this question through history & art projects, public programs, contemporary art & visual storytelling. www.beyondwalls.nl Beyond Walls is an Amsterdam-based and globally active platform of independent (cultural) professionals, scholars, artists and visual storytellers. Our mission is to contribute to decolonial and inclusive futures by initiating and curating projects that raise awareness, challenge views and spark critical conversation and co-creation. We develop and curate through an intersectional, diasporic lens, work independently and in collaboration with a diversity of scholars, artists, initiatives and partners like Framer Framed, TED, Erasmus Huis, Read My World, Het Tropenmuseum, Research Center for Material Culture, Het Scheepvaartmuseum, Open University and more. In our projects we center diaspora perspectives and highlight the entanglement of personal stories, colonial history and contemporary global context. Involving the impact and afterlives of colonialism and overarching issues like racism, xenophobia, homophobia, gender diversity, identity and belonging. By creating spaces where different worlds temporarily meet, we strive to broaden perspectives and stimulate an open, more empathetic worldview.
