The right to freedom of expression and information is a fundamental human right. All professional rights and duties of a journalist originate from the right of the public to be informed about events and opinions. This Charter of Journalistic Ethics has been established in compliance with the Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights as well as the IFJ Declaration of Principles on the Conduct of Journalists which is proclaimed as a standard of professional conduct for journalists engaged in gathering, transmitting, disseminating and commenting on news and events. We, Georgian media the representatives of Georgian Media deem it our duty to observe faithfully the principles stated below. Within the general law of our country, we recognize in professional matters the jurisdiction of colleagues only, to the exclusion of every kind of interference by governments or others.
