The Embassy of Guyana in Washington, DC was established in 1966 and the Permanent Mission of Guyana to the Organization of American States in 1991. The Ambassador is concurrently accredited to the USA, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador and also serves as Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS).The Missions function as adjuncts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their objectives are , inter alia, to foster and strengthen political and economic relations with the host government and other friendly nations represented in Washington, DC and at the Organization of American States, promote and protect Guyana's sovereignty and territorial integrity, promote investment, trade and tourism for Guyana, fulfill the consular needs of Guyanese resident in the host country , and persons wishing to travel to, or conduct business in Guyana, facilitate persons wishing to re-migrate to Guyana, and in general to execute and promote the Foreign Policy objectives of the country.
