Be Inspired! Founded in 1973, Garth Newel Music Center is a multi-program, year-round comprhensive arts organization dedicated to the performance, study and enjoyment of chamber music of all genres. In 2012 the Center received Chamber Music America's "Acclaim" award for outstanding service and contibution to the community. Recently, the Center was recognized by the Virginia Commission for the Arts as a Bedrock Institute for the Arts in Virginia. Nestled in the breathtaking splendor of Virginia's Allegheny Mountains the Center presents over 50 concerts throughout the year. The complete Garth Newel Experience includes gourmet dining created by Chef, Josh Elliot. Lodging is also is available in the Historic Manor House situated on the exquisite 114-acre property. The venue hosts numerous renowned guest musicians and artists of many genres however the majority of the concerts are performed by the Center's resident ensemble, the Garth Newel Piano Quartet (GNPQ). GNPQ maintains an active touring schedule and have performed throughout the United States and on five continents. Dedicated to inspiring today's composers, they hold an annual composition competition and have commissioned prominent composers such as Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Moravec, and most recently through a Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Grant supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, David Biedenbender Educational programs include the Emerging Artist Fellowship Program (an intensive 4-week immersion program for college-age students), an Amateur Chamber Music Retreat, and the Allegheny Mountain String Project, the region's only comprehensive string music education program and a vital source of music education for children in the Bath, Alleghany, and Highland communities.Known for its breathtaking scenery, world-class performances, and friendly and comfortable accommodations, Garth Newel is truly a one-of-a-kind experience.
