The Stairbuilders and Manufacturers Association is a not for profit trade association providing expertise to improve the Stairway Industry, its products, and their use through education of all sectors of the industry and the consumer. The SMA is composed of Stair builders, Installers, Stair Part Manufacturers, Distributors and Dealers. Ancillary companies that provide services and/or products in support of the industry, as well as design and regulatory professionals are also members. Each member's value contributes to the comprehensive expertise of the association. The SMA is best known for its contribution in the development of consistently interpreted building codes and standards and funding of stairway safety research/testing essential to safe, beautiful, stairways. In concert with these efforts the SMA also provides for certification of members and learning opportunities for designers, contractors, and code officials.
