Maccabi Australia together with our member States and affiliated Clubs exist to promote Jewish identity and continuity – connecting our Jewish community through sport.We are the largest Jewish grass-roots organisation in Australia, boasting a 90-year heritage, 35,000 supporters and more than 6,000 members ranging in age from 5 to 85 years across over 50 clubs. Every week participating in a Maccabi team provides an opportunity for Jewish children to connect and form lifelong friendships. Our event calendar includes an annual Junior Sports Carnival, participation in the Maccabiah Games in Israel, interstate sport challenges and Maccabi regional events.Maccabi is a world wide organisation that represents Jewish sportsmen and women around the world. The Maccabi World Union (MWU) represents more than 500,000 members in over 60 countries participating in just about every sporting code. MWU has established a phenomenal track record of using organised sports as a passport to lifelong Jewish involvement.The Maccabi organisation in Australia has a proud history of developing Jewish sport and has been sending a team to the Maccabiah since 1950 as well as playing a significant role in developing sport locally through Junior carnivals. Importantly Maccabi Australia is a Zionist sports organisation and is focused on strengthening its links with Israel and the Jewish community generally.
