Russell Ashmore and Dr. James Hayes were on a Mo-Med Mission trip in 2003, when they wondered, "If we can do this in South America, half way around the world, why can't we do something to help the people in our back yard?" This very conversation was the seed that was planted that would eventually give birth to what is now the Taylors Free Medical Clinic. Upon their return, a steering committee was formed, in October of 2004 the clinic was incorporated, and we opened our doors on July 28, 2005. Taylors free medical Clinic is a faith-based clinic whose mission is to minister to the mind, body, and spirit of the medically uninsured and indigent people of the greater Taylors area. Aside from our management team, we are fully staffed by volunteers, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and administrative personnel. Even our cleaning is done by volunteers. Volunteers are the back bone of our operation. When we opened the doors of the clinic for operation on July 28, 2005, we saw 10 patients that evening. To date, we have screened and serviced over 3,700 patients. An average Thursday night now consists of 3 medical doctors, 3 nurses, a chiropractor, and a counselor to see approximately 30 medical patients, 15 chiropractic patients, and 5-6 counseling. This is all supported by a volunteer staff of greeters, receptionists, medical records, and security. In addition to the Thursday night clinic we now offer specialty clinics to include Chiropractic, Counseling, Surgical, Orthopedic, Dermatology, Gynecology, x-ray, and Neurology. Also, every Monday and Tuesdays include follow up visits, and every Wednesday we screen for eligibility. It has been amazing to see God's hand in every aspect of the planning, execution, and operation of this clinic. Our Board of Directors have been very faithful at keeping God in the center of every decision that is made and every action that is taken regarding the clinic, and God has been faithful to bless it as a result of that.
