The National Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association is the nation's leading association for onsite and decentralized wastewater treatment systems. Its members include all practitioners and companies in the industry, including, manufacturers, installers, service providers, engineers, soil scientists, regulators and academia. Onsite and decentralized wastewater treatment is a growing field which provides an environmentally friendly, economical and low-energy alternative to central sewer systems. The US Environmental Protection Agency has long recognized onsite/decentralized systems as a permanent and important part of our nation's wastewater infrastructure. As communities and utilities face increasing difficulty due to leaky, aging and crumbling underground pipes within central sewer systems -- and fewer dollars available to finance expensive new sewer expansions -- the benefits of onsite and decentralized systems are becoming clearer. Onsite and decentralized systems are an ecologically sound solution which effectively satisfies the triple bottom line (economic, environmental and societal benefits) for sustainable wastewater intrastructure. NOWRA's mission is to inform the public about the value of onsite systems, offer training, education and information to industry practioners, establish professional standards, and work with the regulatory community to expand the acceptance and use of onsite and decentralized systems.
