The Slammers began their inaugural season on May 19, 2011. As Will County's only professional sports team, The Slammers are dedicated to providing family-friendly, affordable entertainment. The Joliet Slammers are members of the Frontier League of Professional Baseball. The Frontier League is the oldest continuously operating independent professional league, in its 24th season in 2016. In 2015 The Joliet Slammers earned The Frontier League's Commissioner's Award of Excellence for increased attendance and business development.
