H.I.T. Foundation is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization serving low-income residents of Preble County Ohio. Our three programs are Affordable Housing, Senior Home Repair, and Homeless Services. H.I.T. Foundation was founded in 2003. Inspiration for Home Is the Foundation came during our founder’s drive home from work almost 20 years ago. As she drove past several homes, she was reminded that many people in our small, rural community lived in poverty. She wondered how many children lived in those homes and how poverty and inadequate housing affected their lives. By combining services and partnering with additional community service agencies, educating our clients, and the community support of H.I.T. Foundation, we are able to foster stability, empowerment, and provide the best services possible to our clients to support our mission and vision that “Everyone in Preble County should have a safe and affordable place to call HOME.” SENIOR HOME REPAIR: H.I.T. Foundation is committed to keeping senior adults in their own homes for as long as possible by providing major home repairs, yard cleanups, minor handyman services and accessibility modifications. There is substantial evidence that concludes that an aging adult has a healthier mental and physical health aging in place, within their own home. HOMELESS SERVICES: In March 2015, H.I.T. Foundation began offering Homeless Services. In October of that year, the foundation opened the emergency homeless shelter which is staffed 24/7. Clients meet regularly with shelter staff and a case manager to work toward their housing goals. AFFORDABLE HOUSING: H.I.T. Foundation owns and manages rental properties throughout Preble County. The goal of our affordable housing is to serve low-income households that meet attainable earning qualifications. Our rental rates are below fair market value and we maintain our commitment to quality property management and support services.
