McLain & Merritt, P.C. was originally organized in 1957 by James P. McLain and Marvin H. Shoob as Shoob & McLain. The firm grew until 1976, when it was known as Shoob, McLain & Merritt. On August 17, 1979, Marvin Shoob was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to sit as a district court judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, and withdrew from the firm. The firm has continued since Judge Shoob's departure as a professional corporation under the name McLain & Merritt, P.C. Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the most prominent national lawyers' directory, has given McLain & Merritt, P.C., an "A" "V" rating, which is the highest rating for both legal and ethical standards.
