As aid donations arrive in an area experiencing a humanitarian crisis, often the practical applications of these donations and the true needs of those affected are overlooked by well-meaning donors immersed in the giving spirit. These donations are an oft-unseen but impactful part of the disaster relief process and have a dramatic effect on logistical, financial, environmental, and public health aspects of recovery from a disaster.RightBoot was founded to combat the issue of disruptive material donations by bridging the sustainability and humanitarian spaces. We provide opportunities for donors to maximize the positive impact of their gifts while simultaneously freeing first responders from the crush of disruptive material donations and slashing the environmental impact caused by the movement or disposal of post-consumer goods. We aim to do this in several ways:Pre-donation recycling programs to collect material donations before they reach the disaster zone and transform them into more flexible cash that better serves the needs of the aid agencies and the local economy.Public Education programs to inform donors before and during disasters on how best to donate so that the full measure of compassion in their donation is felt, and without causing more harm.On-scene aid recycling, partnered with local and global recyclers and creative reusers, to get disruptive aid that has already arrived out of the way of first responders and transform it into cash.RightBoot believes in the power of human potential in both sustainable, environmentally responsible innovation and the vast scope of human kindness and compassion. We walk towards a world where unsolicited donations become complete aid solutions.
