Every year, our team of undergraduate engineering students design and build a new concrete toboggan, complete with a specialty concrete mix, steering system, braking mechanism, and protective superstructure. A concrete toboggan is a 5-person sled that runs on concrete skis, and can weigh up to 300 lbs.Our team's mission is provide comprehensive experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate engineering students of all years and specializations to gain technical experience using 3-D solid modelling and finite element analysis. In addition, students are exposed to the hands-on manufacturing processes of material testing of both concrete and alloys, as well as assembling the toboggan through use of Civil Engineering lab equipment, machine shops, and build spaces on McMaster campus.
