The practice was opened in 1944 by Dr. Ben Chikaraishi after moving to Chicago, originally located in the Lakeview neighborhood as a full-service optometry office. Services included eye examinations, choosing frames, and cutting glass lenses in the office for his patients. He served the local community for many years before his son, Dr. James Chikaraishi graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry, joining his father as a partner. The practice moved to the North Park neighborhood, where many patients followed the Chikaraishis to continue family-oriented care. Dr. Ben retired and Dr. Jim was later joined by his wife, Amy. Patients now love to talk about how friendly and honest Jim and Amy were and how many deep relationships they have formed over the years, and how much good they have done for their community. Jim and Amy retired in 2019 and transitioned the practice to Dr. Mark Takesuye, who is able to continue the care that has been provided thus far.
