Born from personal experience working directly with SA Families & children who were suddenly placed into Emergency Care facilities, Treasure Boxes is an Adelaide based Not for Profit (NFP) organisation that commenced operations in May 2015. Treasure Boxes aims to ease the anxiety, stress and trauma of young children and their families by joining with support agencies throughout Adelaide to meet the material needs of families with babies and young children. We collect, sort and redistribute essential nursery equipment, clothing, books and toys for babies and school children up to the age of 18 years old.Many of our Treasure Boxes children have been removed & displaced from their families with many carrying complex trauma histories. Too often, we would find that due to the nature of their removals, these children would arrive without any, if not very little, clothing except what they present with. No personal items, no toys of comfort to provide distraction. As these children would generally be in care for an extended period of time, it is challenging to entertain them with the very limited resources provided by support organisations. It is also a huge struggle to cloth them in suitable attire when there was limited available from the start, and without any provision for clothing in the very near future. From our early days, we have actively become involved in assisting families fleeing from Domestic Violence situations who have had to flee with very little of their own personal belongings, children and families living with disadvantage and at high risk of poverty and homelessness, and those who have been victims of natural disasters.We are seeking financial and tangible goods donations, racking/shelving for our warehouse facility, volunteers and sponsors of any kind to support us to support SA kids and families in need.
