icareindia is an entity of the Shyama Memorial Welfare Society (SMWS), a non-profit organization established in 1992 under the Society Act of 1860 by Dr Surya Prakash. Born in 1942, Dr Prakash is a retired senior scientist from CSIR (a government of India research organization). Since 1993, he has been working toward imparting quality and value-based education to underprivileged children in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. SMWS runs an academic institution that offers high quality convent education (up to class 7) to children from poverty-stricken families at minimal fee. The school provides uniforms, shoes, books and stationary to the deserving children at free of cost. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, the school sprawls over 4500 square feet and boasts of a library room, computer lab and science lab.Dr Prakash's son, Anoop Gupta formally founded icareindia on July 11, 2015. After working for more than 16 years in the IT industry across Europe, Anoop returned to India to fulfil his mother's dream.In association with the Uttar Pradesh government and Lucknow University, Anoop has linked more than 2000 college students (from 47 colleges) with 100 government primary schools (more than 11000 children) in Lucknow. Under the guidance of DM Lucknow and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, icareindia's programmes involve direct administrative participation through a district committee.
