As an essential component of our heritage, films represent a great source of information about the history of the European society, the richness of its cultural identities and the diversity of its people. With this in mind, Movie Travel aims to create itineraries and experiences of cultural traveling across UNESCO World Heritage European sites that have hosted well-renowned movies and film festivals. Based on the concept of Screen Tourism, Movie Travel relies on the support of public bodies and private operators that contribute to disseminate the projects' guidelines as stakeholders and benefit from its business network and know-how. Its prospects of success are based on the unquestionable appeal and international projection of European UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as their relevance in the collective imagery when it comes to picture the most outstanding episodes in the history of Europe. Movie Travel is targeted to people traveling for culture, who define themselves as movie & travel lovers. The project involves 8 partners from Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta and Spain, acting as a consortium, and has been funded by the European Union's COSME Programme. The Italian Regione of Liguria, the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, the Fondazione per la Cultura Genova Palazzo Ducale and the University of Malta bring to the project their broad experience in tourism and cultural policies managing. Italian DMO Destination Makers, Spanish creative communication agency Inmedia Solutions, Cypriot tour operator Top Kinisis Travel PLC and the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Lyon (France) complete the list of partners. All in all, Movie Travel benefits from their creditworthiness and innovation capacity in the tourism and communication sector.
