With over 50 years of experience, Shires Equestrian is a leading name in the equestrian industry, supplying quality products for horse and rider. From humble beginnings, the company has evolved into a trusted household brand. Malcolm Ainge, founder of Shires Equestrian, started the company in 1968 with only a small loan of stock to sell at cattle markets and racecourse auctions. Using profits from sales, he purchased a sewing machine and with the help of his father-in-law, Phil White, designed a pattern for saddlecloths and rugs. The rugs proved so popular they were soon selling all around the UK and Europe. From making rugs on a single sewing machine, in 1976 we made the move to a bigger factory in Bromyard, Herefordshire. The company grew to a staff of 40 and began employing machinists to produce large quantities of Jute, New Zealand, Wool and Cotton Rugs. With complete control over the design, raw materials and manufacturing process, Shires are able to produce quality products that are accessible to all equestrians.
