The Estate of Castelnuovo Tancredi encompasses over 700 hectares of the surrounding countryside of Buonconvento, near to Montalcino and Siena. This area has been defined as a UNESCO protected territory and lies between the world renowned towns of Montalcino and the Etruscan establishment of Murlo. The ancient castle in composed of a tower dating back to the 11th century and the "Medicean "style main villa which was built in the 15th century. Already during the 13th century,, the written documents of the property attest to the land surrounding the castle being interspersed with olive tree and vineyards. Eventually, at the onset of the 1700s when the olive oil and the wine production became increasingly prominent, a wine cellar was constructed as well as an olive press. The architecturally important structure has been restored to its original beauty and is now again in use as the cantina and wine cellar, as well as the tasting room, once the living quarters of the troops of the army of Siena.Today, Castelnuovo Tancredi is one of the largest privately owned estates in the region of Siena and dedicates its wine, olive oil and cereal production to organic methods of farming. The DOC label for the wine and the DOP for the olive oil are certifications fo the region of the Orcia Valley.
