TEDxHKU is an independently organised TED event hosted by a team of students from the University of Hong Kong, the oldest tertiary institution within the region, to bring together a sustainable network of fellow thinkers seeking a greater understanding of the world around us.Our mission, much like TED's, is to promote "Ideas Worth Spreading" because we share the same passionate belief in the power of ideas to inspire and change lives. A more specific focus for TEDxHKU is to foster a greater sense of community amongst the people and organisations gathered around the event by sparking meaningful and impactful conversations.TED is a nonprofit based in California devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). The organisation was founded in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged. Since then, it has grown to cover an ever-expanding range of topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. All TED and TEDx Talks are made freely accessible at TED.com.
