You don't have to be alone. The Care Communities recruits and trains volunteers to provide emotional and domestic support to those affected by serious illness, including cancer and HIV.The Care Communities currently offers two services: Care Teams & Peer Matching. Additionally, The Care Communities also partners with Texas Oncology to hold Cancer Support Groups. All of these services are free of cost. Our Care Teams consist of 3-6 trained volunteers that provide companionship and share the efforts of assistance with daily living tasks (such as light housework, running errands, or going to an appointment) for a Care Partner, who is someone living with a serious illness without a strong support system. In addition, Care Partners have the opportunity to receive case management to assist with accessing the network of comprehensive health care services and other support services. Our Peer Matching is available for those diagnosed with a serious illness (or for loved ones of those diagnosed) to connect them with a survivor (or caregiver) of the same or similar illness to provide hope and support for the journey ahead.Cancer Support Groups are provided in collaboration with Texas Oncology for those living with cancer or for those that have a loved one living with cancer.
