"Conservation, Education, Innovation" ACT is a 10-year old environment & conservation agency that has developed a reputation for being innovative in preserving Southern Africa's irreplaceable natural resources and ancient heritage. It works in partnership with other well known organisations such as the University of KZN and in all its projects, finds clever ways for communities to get involved in protecting their environment and generate income at the same time. Some of our projects are: using state-of-the art technology to conserve 27,000 year old San (Bushman) rock art paintings in the Drakensberg World Heritage Site, as well as using laser and GIS mapping technology to create the first digital archive of historic buildings in KZN; mountain river rehabilitation and soil erosion control that involves communities in protecting southern Africa's increasingly scarce water resources, developing the first large-scale waste recycling programme for KZN's capital city (in conjunction with the Wildlands Conservation Trust) and initiating the first project in northern KZN to protect rare and endangered African butterfly species.
