The Bike Brigade pairs volunteer cyclists with community-based organizations to deliver food and other essential supplies to folks across Toronto. We emerged in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which only exposed many of the inequities that already existed in our City like food insecurity. In year 1, we delivered over 5,000 food boxes and 8000 meals and hygiene products to folks in need. This reduced up to 6 tonnes of CO2 in our City by replacing delivery vehicles with bikes.Through community work and bike marshaling, we also actively support BIPOC- and LGTQ2S+-inclusive leadership demanding housing solutions, acknowledgement of Indigenous land claims, defunding and abolishing the police and a myriad of other demands seeking justice.
