- What is the IRI? The IRI was created to promote the use of triple bottom line reporting as a mechanism for sustainable development and growth, in a context that is aligned with Islamic principles, beliefs and values. The IRI's mission is to make sustainability reporting standard practice for all businesses in all sectors, responsibly advancing economic opportunity in the Islamic world. IRI's sustainability reporting framework provides comprehensive metrics and methods for effectively measuring and reporting on sustainability-related performance. The initiative was launched by international sustainability consultancy EMG, after more than a decade of working with some of the world's leading businesses, governments and NPOs – many of which are in the Islamic world. The IRI is a not-for-profit organization headquartered in the United Arab Emirates. Funding for the IRI is generated from two sources; endowments from organizations and individuals who share IRI's values and ambitions for the future, and a self-sustaining revenue resulting from training programs, certification, and licensing fees. The IRI standard is governed by an Advisory Council formed of a group of international, regional and local experts who ensure that the IRI standard stays abreast of evolving international legislation and best practice. - Why use the Islamic Reporting Initiative? Internationally, many companies are recognizing the importance of corporate social responsibility. Moreover, an increasing number of forward-thinking organizations are demonstrating that incorporating sustainability measures does not limit business growth, but instead presents a strong business opportunity for innovation and value creation.
