Substandard healthcare, education, vocational training, and job placement is a pervasive reality for our urban American communities. Minorities experience up to 40% worse healthcare outcomes than non-minorities. For example: ‣We have a maternal mortality crisis among African American women. African American women are three to four times more likely to die during pregnancy, labor, and childbirth than are Caucasian women. ‣African American men have the lowest life expectancy of any major demographic group in the U.S. ‣The African American cardiovascular mortality rate is 20% higher than that of non-Hispanic Caucasians. ‣Of particular relevance today, there is a large racial disparity in COVID- 19 mortality rates. For example, among those aged 45-54, the African American and Hispanic/Latino death rates are at least six times higher than the death rate of Caucasians.I'm Dr. Marvell Scott and I have been observing these frightening phenomena and other race-related disparities in our respective medical practices and throughout our entire body of medical work for over three decades combined. I felt compelled to found 2nd Chances with the primary goal of improving the poor standard and quality of clinical medical care in urban and minority communities. As a black doctor, I understand the urgency and importance of connecting patients in underserved communities with healthcare providers who can address those patients' unique needs. Empirical data demonstrates that our method of matching black doctors with black patients will result in an immediate improvement in the standard of care for patients treated within our unprecedented network.
