Adventure Therapy was founded by Lauren Huffmaster, metastatic breast cancer survivor. Her desire to disrupt the mindset around cancer inspires cancer survivors to engage in a purpose filled life. Each of our programs address the emotional side effects of cancer, specifically:1. Fear: Survivors live with a constant state of urgency and uncertainty which prohibit leading a fulfilling life.2. Isolation: Most patients post-treatment go into a state of depression and block themselves off from their community.3. Identity: Everything about life has changed since diagnosis and we have to learn to put ourselves back together.Retreats:The impact of cancer does not end with the patient. Co-survivors, those living life with you, also experience the emotional impact of cancer. Our retreats acknowledge the family unit. We provide space for restorative communication, offer fun activities, and encourage each individual as they process an uncertain future.Community:Humans heal by belonging to a community, but the cancer experience is isolating. An action as simple as an introduction can overcome isolation. So we provide them, every day. A community that shares life-altering experiences is a space to heal, grow, and become.Education:Fear is the number one enemy of those impacted by cancer. It impacts lives long after treatments end. It is contagious and spreads to those we love. By articulating the cancer experience, we minimize cancer's impact on the next generation today.
