The Mission of the American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its congressional charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, is to provide relief to victims of disasters and to help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. We've been making an impact on the lives of families throughout Sussex County, New Jersey, since 1917. It is felt by the family whose home has been destroyed by fire just the same as the family needing help to communicate with loved ones serving our country through the military and stationed thousands of miles away on land or at sea. It can be heard in the mother's sigh after she frees an obstruction from her choking child's throat because of what she learned in a Red Cross Infant & Child CPR class. It can also be felt in the confidence that the ill and the injured have that blood will be available for them at Sussex County's two local hospitals.
