Ames Pride was established out of a need to build community for LGBTQIA+ people in Ames, Iowa State University and the surrounding area. We are committed to building relationships within the community and creating bridges with other groups in the Ames area.We are a community of volunteers who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual, aromantic, or otherwise non-heterosexual, non-cisgender, as well as heterosexual and cisgender allies. We strive to do work that promotes community building among LGBTQA+ people, to educate the community on issues affecting LGBTQA+ people, and to facilitate an environment that values the intersectional identities of all people living in and around the City of Ames, IA.We are committed to maintaining a community that recognizes and values the inherent worth and dignity of every person; that fosters mutual respect among its directors and volunteers; that encourages each individual to reach their own potential; and that builds momentum for the equitable treatment of people.
