Civic & Social Organization - Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain
Deafblindness is a unique disability, resulting from the severe combination of two impairments: visual and hearing. Without seeing, without hearing and, in many cases, also without speaking, people with deafblindness, without individual and specialized care, are completely isolated from society, disconnected from the world around them. Some people with deafblindness are totally deaf and blind, while others have hearing and / or visual remains. In any case, "this disability seriously affects the daily skills necessary for a minimally autonomous life, requires specialized services, personnel specifically trained for their care and special communication methods" (Law 27/2007, of October 23). APASCIDE - Association Spanish for Families of People with Deafblindness, legally established in 1991, is a state-level non-profit organization, under the special tax regime regulated in Title II of Law 49/2002, of December 23. It was declared of Usefulness Public by the Ministry of the Interior on April 4, 2006 (BOE May 11) and has the seal of Accredited NGO of the Lealtad Foundation. Our mission is to seek, create and promote all kinds of actions that allow the person with deafblindness their better individual and human training and their integration into society, so that they can develop their capacities to the maximum and lead a dignified life El Centro Santa Ángela de la Cr uz is one of our most important projects and is of great relevance to society as it is the first and only Day and Residence Center for the Seriously Affected in Spain specialized in serving young people and adults with deafblindness. Since its inauguration in 2010 by Her Majesty the Queen Sofía, we are responding to a need that was not covered at all, involving the Public Administrations and society in general through financial contributions, close collaboration and volunteering.
