ASTRL is a not for profit research lab focused on speech technology for people with disabilities and their support teams. We create tools for people with disabilities and their support teams so that they may follow their dreams. A current focus of ASTRL is on augmentative and alternative communication. Specifically, we create new type of support structures for AAC users and their supports, and research new paradigms in AAC device technologies.Assistive technology refers to technologies that people with disabilities use to perform life activities. Speech technology encompasses speech recognition, speech synthesis, and speech coding. Augmentative and alternative communication include devices and supports of people who have expressive communication disorders.
