Farming - Crookwell, New South Wales, Australia
The Australian Agricultural Centre is a multipurpose facility to educate, showcase, and demonstrate technology and innovation in the agricultural industry. The AAC is a unique concept that aims to dynamically present agriculture of today. Two core activities; education through a tourism centre - interactive and interpretive with changing and static displays, and formal education through a working model farm, providing an off campus facility for access to established agricultural courses. With increasing interest on where our food and fibre comes from, and sustainable agriculture, the public is looking for learning opportunities and lived experiences. Visitors who are looked for a fresh organically locally produced meal or an opportunity to buy locally produced products will also enjoy an authentic agricultural experience at the Australian Agricultural Centre. The Australian Agricultural Centre is and Incorporated Association and is proposed for Crookwell NSW. A recent community consultation meeting demonstrated unanimous support for the centre, and its location Crookwell. At the meeting were farmers, industry providers, and local business owners. There has been several comments in the press regarding the urban population's lack of understanding on where their food and fibre comes from. A recent report by NSW Farmers Federation states "that 83% of Australians would describe their connection with farming as ‘distant' or ‘non-existent'". The Australian Agricultural Centre will go a long way to fixing this lack of education and understanding.
