Music - Stowmarket, England, United Kingdom
Our journey into creating Band Academy felt natural. For five years, we (Jake & Adam) enjoyed forming our own band with friends at college and experiencing the music industry first-hand. Being a young band, we were unable to spend lots of money on outsourcing a record producer, music video director, photographer etc. So as a result, we quickly found that teaching ourselves was the best and only option. It was this realisation that without our new, acquired knowledge, we would have found it incredibly hard to effectively create and distribute our music. We started to wonder, ‘Why isn't this taught as part of the Music Curriculum from a young age?' Yes, we were half way there by being able to play instruments but the fundamental skills relating to other music-related opportunities lacked focus. Our overall mission is simple. We want every child to know that just because they may or may not be able to play an instrument, music is not limited by this. Growing up, I only loved singing and as a result, I neglected music as a subject in school. I was under the impression that it was just for those who could play cello to Grade 8 level for example, but I had a passion for songwriting, making music videos and generally had more of a creative outlook on the subject. We felt it was an incredible shame that, despite positive advances in education, children still do not get the extra opportunities to write/record their own music and express themselves creatively through branding, directing a music video and performing live.So we started Band Academy and continue to make sure that every child under our care is empowered to believe that a passion for music is more than enough. We label our 11-week course ‘The Ultimate Band Experience', enabling all our members to consecutively learn the process from writing a song to performing it live.We began our journey at Whatfield Primary, a tiny school in the heart of Suffolk and after half of the school signed up, we realised Band Academy could really help and inspire young people everywhere. Soon after, we added 5 more schools for the following term and now we are fortunate enough to have worked with over 40 primary schools (as of 4th June 2018). It's still amazing to receive such positive feedback, often hearing that our club helps boost confidence and social skills as well as several teachers describing it as the most popular club they've ever had. What now? We are actively and continuously seeking new schools to help spread our message as well as now operating a recording studio to offer further support and coaching at The Mix in Stowmarket. We also have further plans to deliver our sessions through other formats during the school day soon.To everyone that has signed up to any of our services... teaching staff, that despite their busy schedules, have believed in us from the beginning... and most of all the brilliant and talented young ‘band members' we work with, thank you. We're just getting started!Keep making music!Jake & Adam
