The BC Wireless project was founded in December 2000 as an experimental research organization. The purposes were to: * establish and operate freely accessible community wireless networks; * research and develop open source tools and resources to promote, build and operate community wireless networks; * research, develop, and promote community-focused applications of community wireless networks; * educate and involve the public in the use of wireless and computer technology; * encourage collaboration between community networks and individuals to develop and interconnect similar wireless networks provincially, nationally and internationallyAlong side our research and experiments in long distance, mesh and community application services - BC Wireless members have worked with Community Internet Service Providers and First Nations throughout British Columbia.
