Apparel & Fashion - London, England, United Kingdom
Do you feel like you're always cleaning up your home? Are you always ending up wearing the same things, even when your closet is filled with many other items? Do you want to create more space in your home, and in your life?My name is Biek (pronounced: Beak). I'm Dutch and I grew up in Holland, but I've been living abroad for three years now and am currently settling down in Singapore. While my passions extend into a lot of different creative outlets – from interior design to visual arts – my first love was fashion. I've worked in the fashion industry for twenty years now, both retail and design, from fast-fashion chains to high-end labels. Each tier has its own focus, its own unique perspective on what fashion means. At the high-end labels, we created a beautiful interaction with fabrics, shapes, and concepts. And every garment had its purpose and meaning. Later, at a mid-level denim brand, identity and status took on greater importance. And working most recently in fast fashion, time limited creativity. The only way to create the number of styles needed for all the collections was to go shopping for inspiration and buy anything that seemed valuable for your designs. Designing in fast-fashion was a real eye-opener for me. The piles and piles of a single style in the factory brought tears to my eyes. The amount of buying samples that are discarded in the blink of an eye was heartbreaking. This didn't align with my values at all! It led to my decision to leave fast fashion and the blog was born. This blog is about the journey to better understand ourselves – to raise our self-awareness and make conscious choices. The posts are asking questions to let you decide what is best for you. I'm handing out the tools; you get to work with them. After all, you know your values best. I'm here to help you remember them. We're in this together.~
