BBBS is nationally recognized as the premier one to one mentoring program in the nation, and is research-based in its outcomes. BBBS program evaluation has shown that one-on-one mentoring and after-school programs with effective supervision have a lasting impact in the lives of children and youth. It improves children's self-confidence, they are able to express feelings better, can make better decisions, show better interests in hobbies, have better attitude toward school, and improve in classroom behavior and academic performance, which results in less delinquent behavior. Mentoring is pairing of a caring same sex adult with a child in need of a positive adult role model, is a means to address multiple risk factors in a child's life including availability of drugs, family conflict, academic failure, delinquent peers, and the inability to gain positive attention and engage in healthy relationships.
