The Biomass Group is a vertically integrated renewable energy company that develops biomass resources for local industry and will develop pellets for export and power for the national grid in Sri Lanka. The production of biomass fuel — from Gliricidia trees — complements and enhances food production. We are the only ethical biomass supply business at scale in the world, that is not buying and clearing forests, affecting indigenous people or mono cultivating energy crop.Sri Lanka was chosen to demonstrate the business model, by leveraging the country's abundant biomass resources. This is an agro-energy program that combines Sustainable Fuel + Food + Livelihood Development. There are 500 million smallholder farmers in the world today, many of whom have meager incomes and live in the tropics. The Biomass Group intends to showcase this agro-energy model to the world and replicate this business in other countries on the Equator where Gliricidia grows in abundance.Our affiliations include United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), Business Call to Action (BCtA), Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) and South Pole Group.
