Birth Trauma Ontario specialises in continuing education and professional development for primary and allied healthcare providers, clinics, hospitals, training organisations, doulas, lactation consultants, and more in the causes and consequences of birth related trauma and in the skills of trauma-informed care for the perinatal client.Research informs us that globally, about one in three parents experiences their births as traumatic and about one in eight enters parenthood with postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder. Birth Trauma Ontario serves as an advocate for birthing families in order to raise awareness on the causes and the solutions for this global pandemic. Billie Harrigan is Birth Trauma Ontario's owner and director and is the author of the world's first accredited certification course for becoming a trauma-informed perinatal professional, which is available online through Childbirth International. Years of investigation into the wealth of research available on the causes, consequences, and solutions for birth-related trauma has resulted in a series of comprehensive, scientifically sound workshops that are available for individuals, groups, and organisations to become equipped in trauma-informed skills to help stem this global pandemic. Birth Trauma Ontario also offers consultations to individuals and organsiations to help determine the gap in information and skills regarding trauma-informed care. Parents and loved ones may also benefit from individual consultations to better understand a traumatic birth experience and the health consequences that can result. They will be introduced to evidence-based solutions that they can pursue according to their own needs and values.
