Sports - Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa
Boland Hockey is an affiliated member of SASHOC (South African Schools Hockey Association) and is a non-profit organisation that solely relies on school affiliation fees in order to operate. It organises all hockey pertaining to both Primary and High schools, school leagues, umpires, coaches, high performance training, trials, team selections, tournaments and player development. It is run by a 100% volunteer committee, nominated and voted in by school representatives/head of school hockey/sport at an AGM in November. Most of the committee members are all coaches/teachers, who serve on the Boland hockey committee on top of their school/sport commitments. The rest are parents that work full time or run their own businesses. They do it "for the love of hockey"!Boland is a large region and for this reason it is divided into three main regions/Hubs to ensure that as many players are reached, and travel times are decreased as far as possible. These regions are mostly used for HP training and regional team selection, except at u16 and u18 level. There are slight differences to the Primary School regions.
