The Brown County Humane Society is a private, non-profit, open-admission animal sheltering organization located in Nashville, Indiana. BCHS accepts all of the county's stray and homeless cats and dogs. We have an outstanding save rate of 95%.Our community outreach program, S.P.O.T. (Serving Pets Outreach Team), provides community assistance to Brown County residents that reduces the number of unwanted animals and helps residents keep their loved pets in their home. S.P.O.T.'s work has reduced the number of animals coming into the shelter by 51% in just four years.The BCHS has been nationally recognized by organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary as an excellent example of a small, rural shelter with limited resources.The shelter operates with a minimal amount of paid staff and relies of the work of a 12-member volunteer Board of Directors and dedicated volunteers contributing more than 10,000 hours of time every year.
