Museums & Institutions - Montreal, Quebec, Canada
The Canadian Federation of the Friends of Museums (CFFM) promotes and advocates on behalf of the over 100,000 volunteers in museums and heritage sites across Canada. It educates the Canadian public about the value of museums and the importance of preserving heritage sites. It encourages young people to take an active role in museums, especially as volunteers. It achieves these objectives through outreach tools such as its websites, ongoing presence in social media, public lectures and a monthly resource information newsletter that provides guidance to volunteers in museums related to recruiting, training, rewarding and the legal rights of volunteers. The CFFM Board is composed of eight Directors, all volunteers, one of whom is President and one who is Executive Director who is responsible for the operations of the not-for-profit corporation. Other Directors volunteer many hours to produce the newsletter and organize lectures. The CFFM is an active member of the World Federation of Friends of Museums, an international organization based in Belgium with Friends associations from various countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, North America and Oceania. The President of the CFFM is the Vice-President responsible for WFFM matters in North America.
