City Government/Municipal Government - Detroit, MI, US
We are passionately committed to transforming the lives of young men in Southeast Detroit. Our demographic consists of low income African-American, Latino, and Caucasian youth, between the ages of 14-20 years old. We facilitate three programs throughout the year: 1) Saturday Night Live, 2) Project Empower, and 3) Project Re-entry. We have served over 300 youth through all three of programs. In our Saturday Night Live program, we provide youth with a positive social experience by helping them develop life skills (such as computer skills), networking with positive community role models from diverse industries, food, and sports activities. Through Project Empower, we provide youth at Southeastern and Denby high schools with college tours, life skills training, food, and activities emphasizing community involvement. Lastly, through Project Re-entry, we provide incarcerated juveniles with job interviewing skills, proper professional attire, financial literacy, diploma continuation, job placement, transportation, and exposure to healthy living skills. Our essence is captured best by the following quote: "When people get caught up with that which is right and they are willing to sacrifice for it, there is no stopping short of victory." MLK, Jr. Our name was derived from this quote.
