The award winning sail training charity Challenge Wales operates Challenge Wales | Wales' Tall Ship (72 foot ex-round the world racing yacht) and Adventure Wales (60 foot ocean-going vessel) using sailing as a platform to develop employability and life skills in young people aged 12 - 25 years. With many young people having never seen the sea before, let alone sailed, the experience of being crew and running a boat with no sailing experience can be life-changing, increases awareness and understanding of the ocean environment and sustainability plus also brings positive mental health and improved wellbeing. Sail training promotes:Teamwork, working to a schedule, communication skills, leadership, respect for others, responsibility and improves self-esteem and confidence. It also places the young person into a positive focused environment and helps develop a 'can-do' attitude.Challenge Wales has worked with young carers, autistic, visually impaired, those in school, college or university, those with learning difficulties, those with low literacy, those doing their Duke of Edinburgh's Award Gold Award, those who have anxiety or depression, young people in employment, those who want a fun adventure and to experience new places and meet new people.Adult sailing:Challenge Wales can also help adults (18 - 80 years) develop teamwork and leadership skills or just an opportunity to be on the water away from everyday life.Companies can also get involved through sponsorship opportunities, and supporting their local community youth group, or through employee volunteering, group sailing activities including Corporate days and more. Challenge Wales is predominantly run by volunteers.
