Matthew is an inspirational writer, motivational speaker, a leader in the fight against suicide, a military veteran, and the author of the Amazon best-selling new release HOPE – A Memoir: My Journey of Love, Loss, and Faith. As an officer in the United States Navy, he has served our great nation for over two decades. His testimony is about overcoming extreme adversity through tenacious faith, raw guts, and the power of immoveable hope. At the age of 6, he lost his father to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. At the age of 37, he lost his 15-year-old daughter to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Between those two deaths, Matthew lost a cousin and two uncles to suicide, and his little brother to self-harm. His story reveals the heart and mind of a father, son, brother, cousin, and nephew – all one person – who has lost loved ones to suicide and self-harm; losses that span generational branches in his family tree. Through the lens of over 20 years of military experience in information operations and strategic communication, Matthew explains how informational power, a largely misunderstood and ignored avenue of influence over the mental and spiritual health of our culture, is a core piece in the suicide puzzle. His powerful message has been broadcast through local, national, and international platforms as a public advocate for suicide prevention, understanding informational power, surviving loss, and equipping others with critical life skills; not just so they can survive, but so they can excel. His vision is to reframe the conversation about suicide, inspire a tectonic shift across the information environment of our culture, and enable a whole-of-society effort in stopping suicide. Matthew's work includes motivational and educational speaking, inspirational writing, survivor advocacy, and ending the epidemic of suicide.
