Food Production - Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France
Located on a hillside just southeast of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château Fortia translates the passion of the Le Roy family for wine. Since the 18th century, the estate was a property of different families: de Fortia, Seguin, Gondi before being acquired by Hippolyte Bernard le Saint in 1890 who enlarged the buildings and gave the Château its current name. His daughter Edmée Bernard le Saint married Baron de Roy de Boiseaumarié, a former pilot and lawyer. He was co-founder of the INAO in 1935 and responsible for the creation of the French appellation contrôlée system in 1936. Today, Château Fortia is still owned and managed by Baron le Roy's descendants. The 19th century caste os surrounded by 30ha of vineyards. Château Fortia produces three red and one white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Six grape varieties are used: Red Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Clairette, Roussanne and White Grenache.
